v0.2.4 Bug fixes, progress bar, ...

---------- v0.2.4 ----------

Lots of stuff going on in this update. First of all: let's talk about the visible additions and changes:

  • A Super Hang-On progress bar! The little arrow below is where your opponent is. Pretty convenient!
  • The return of the recoloured AI cars. Nothing has changed since the last time this option was enabled, but it just looks better. I've also added some extra cars.
  • New background for the first stage. The water next to the road needs to be recoloured so it would blend nicely with the background.
  • Tilted camera. The horizon is no longer in the middle of the screen, but slightly lower, like in the original games, except when you select the Countach or the motorcycle. It still needs some fine-tuning and some improvements and in the future there's going to be some dynamic tilting when you're driving on hills.
  • Some info at the beginning of the race. When you're new to the game, you immediately know how many races there are and what your objective is.
  • I also removed the buildings from stage 2. I didn't like them. And I've replaced the light posts to reflect the ones of the Genesis port of Super Hang-On. I'm going to add billboards later.

And for the bug fixes:

  • I've finally been able to fix a nasty bug that would made the AI cars unable to respawn if they would respawn between 2 stages. A simple addition of a = did the job.
  • Improved AI behaviour. They will do a better job at avoiding a collision with you, although they will still occasionally ignore you and bump into you. I hate it when AI cars pull out in front of you, like they do in the game 80's Overdrive.
  • A change in the rear tire wear calculation. Burn-outs didn't really do anything.
  • Probably some more...

Something weird happens for me.

Driving Countach on Race 2, everything freeze at random timing but it doesn't give any error messages. Then I only have no choice but hit Esc key.

Freeze, I mean is, stops remaining timer, chrono on top right, AI cars and my car. But control of my car is still possible and can see accelerate, decelerate, boost and related simulation of heat through gauges and displays sprite of the car going to turn when apply steering, though it's not moving at all.

That's really weird. In what stage did it happen? I'll look into it.

Those occur at about 26 second or 1 minute 26 second from the race starts. In any cases, I couldn't finish the race 2. Also, rebooting my computer didn't work.

When it freezes, tires do wear out when doing burnout or wheel spin, but brakes don't seem to be heated judging from green bar on the left side. And getting even weirder, I can activate Turbo even when the engine is too hot to do that in normal condition.

And it only happens with the Countach? You tried multiple times? If that's the case, it will be pretty easy to replicate the glitch.

Yes, only occurs with Countach and I tried like 6 or 7 times at least, none of them get me through the finish line or proper timeout. Redhead and DX40 didn't have that problem.

A note just in case, I'm using Japanese Win 10 system with almost no space left in C: drive and placing the game on D: drive.

(1 edit)

It appears that the opponent is the problem. For some reason the position becomes at that point NaN. I have no clue why, but I'll figure it out. It only happens with the motorcycle opponent.

Edit: It has something to do with the turbo of the motorcycle. I recently made a change so the motorcycle would constantly press the turbo button. I've now added a new condition that it would only press the turbo button on the straights and now the crash doesn't seem to happen anymore.

That means that the motorcycle opponent will be slightly slower, but I'll figure something out in the future.

I'm uploading the new build right now. If you want to continue your game, make sure that you copy all the .txt files to the new game folder. ;)
